Croke Park

If you are coming to Experience Gaelic Games why not take a tour of where the games are most frequently played. Croke Park was built in 1913 and has been home to the Gaelic Athletic Association ever since. As Ireland’s oldest and most iconic stadium, it has been host to a slew of momentous events while continuing to hold the All-Ireland Final in Hurling and Gaelic Football since its establishment. With a capacity of over 82,000 people, Croke Park Stadium is the third largest stadium in Europe and is well worth the visit. National Botanic Gardens

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (3 min walk)

Just a three minute walk away, going to see the National Botanic Gardens is the perfect post Experience Gaelic Games activity. The Gardens are renowned for its two glasshouses, both recipients of the Euorpa Nostra award for Excellence in conservation architecture. Visitors can also enjoy such features as the Herbaceous borders, Rose Gardens, the Alpine Yard, the Pond Area, Rock Gardens, and the Arboretum. The Botanic Gardens are also home to over 300 endangered plant species and six species which are already extinct in the wild. Entrance into the Gardens is free, but the guided tours are well worth the small fee as the tour guides bring the National Botanic Gardens to life with a plethora of interesting facts and stories to add context to the plantlife.

Glasnevin Cemetery

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (4 min walk from the Gardens)

Glasnevin Cemetery was opened in 1832 as a place where both Catholics and Protestants could perform their various burial rituals without interference or discrimination. The Cemetery is currently 124 acres large and holds the resting place of many of Ireland’s most prominent national figures. So treat yourself to a tour and learn about the men who made Ireland what it is today. Afterwards, you will be able to walk around the streets of Dublin and look up at the street signs of O’Connell Street, Parnell Street, Griffith Avenue, and many more, and know just a little bit more about who those people were and what they did.

McMahon’s Cafe

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (5 min walk)

Located just down the road, McMahon’s cafe is a tiny gem in the neighborhood of Glasnevin. With fresh ingredients, a great staff, and a great location, it is the perfect place to grab lunch after a session with Experience Gaelic Games. Anderson’s Food Hall & Cafe

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (8 min walk)

A bit of wine and cheese and you’ll be grand. Andersons Food Hall & Cafe is a Continental Style Cafe/Wine Bar encompassing a Gourmet Food Store and Wine Shop. With a full Breakfast Menu, a gourmet deli stocked with farmhouse Cheeses, Charcuterie, and speciality breads, along with a wine selection of over 100 bottles, you can’t afford to miss Anderson’s Food Hall & Cafe. Whether you are looking for a hearty breakfast, a nice brunch, a delightful lunch, a leisurely cup of tea, or a pleasant dinner- Anderson’s is the place to go.

John Kavanagh “The Gravediggers”

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: 1.3km (15 min walk)

If you are looking for an old, authentic, family run pub, “The Gravediggers” or Kavanagh’s, is our recommendation. Located right beside Glasnevin Cemetery, it is said that “The Gravediggers” pour the best Guinness in town. With a bar area that hasn’t changed much since the 1800s the place breathes history. Well worth it to stop in for some lunch and pint after a tour of Glasnevin Cemetery. The bar area is for drinking and talking only, whilst food is served in the lounge.

Griffith Park

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (2 min walk)

There’s nothing better than grabbing some take-away and heading to Griffith Park for a picnic. Situated on the Tolka River between Glasnevin and Drumcondra and just downstream from the National Botanic Gardens, the park reaches just around 7.5 hectares. With a new pedestrian bridge, a beautiful flower garden, a wide selection of trees, and a popular playground, Griffith Park is the best place to be on a sunny day.

Porterhouse North

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (15 min walk)

Ahhh the Porter House. Home of the award winning, World’s Best stout: “The Plain Porter.” The Porterhouse chain made history when they opened in Temple Bar in 1996, as Ireland’s first ever brew pub. Just two years later, they expanded to Glasnevin and have since opened another four locations around the world including London and New York. The Porterhouse prides itself on its Irish handcrafted beers, brewed in small batches, for a truly wonderful taste. So while you are in Glasnevin, be sure to stop by the Porterhouse North for a pint with your friends.

McGowan's

Distance from Experience Gaelic Games: (25 min walk)

As they say, McGowan’s is Dublin’s best known, worst kept secret for a fun night out with friends. Four generations of McGowans have made their mark on this Phibsboro landmark pub turning it into one of Dublin’s most fun filled nightlife attractions. Whether you are looking for a good place to eat or a fun place to have a few pints, McGowan’s has our recommendation!
